Hi, Core Girl (Team Rider) Erin here….
The winter season officially kicked off the year with an early opening at Arapahoe Basin, Colorado and since then, resorts around the West have opened their lifts, trails, and terrain parks to many avid skiers and riders. But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. Despite some of the earliest openings for Colorado resorts, the Rocky Mountains have been void of snow for a month now. Major resorts such as Vail, Park City, and Deer Valley have delayed their openings due to a lack of that fluffy white stuff. This La Nina year (or the impact of Global warming - depending on your views) is certainly causing many ski and ride activists to go a little stir crazy.

So we Core girls went to Boardfest to check out the scene and the all-girls action sports and empowerment festival - over labor day weekend on the Huntington Beach Pier. With clinics, contests, concerts and exhibitions, we figured it was going to be a great, fun-filled and exciting fest! While the theory and philosophy behind the event is amazing - we were a bit disappointed at the turn out of people and the quality of the exhibitions.
With the biggest prize purse ever in women’s skate - $20k for 1st, $15k for 2nd, and $10k for 3rd, the ladies brought it at women’s street comp at the X-Games!! So stoked about such a showing - finally much of the Alliance’s work is paying off - in getting girls recognized and seen out there skating - though not all televised - :(. Still there is much progress and our hats go off to the ladies of the Alliance, and to the up-and-comers ripping it up… RAH!!
So, here’s the official results…

Just a little something on my mind. Lis and I were at a skateshop (that will remain nameless) the other day - and I went up to the counter to ask the guy something. He looked at me, paused, and five seconds later said - “Ummm…You Skate?” Like I was in the wrong country, speaking the wrong language. Continue reading ‘You Skate?’
